DHL express, FEDEX express and SF express with same charge weight calculate method.

Each carton with a size after finished packing.We can get the volume weight by the real size of each carton.

In China, the unit of weight is measured in KG. 1KG is around 2.2lb.

Then the volume weight of each carton= Length(cm)*Width(cm)*Height(cm)/5000

What is charge weight? Charge weight usually be charged by “KG”(kilogram). when you want to get quotation for your shipment you can ask your freight forwarder how much per “KG” for your product. But you need to know where the “KG” come from first.

For example, Lily has 3cartons foam pad with same size 100*80*80cm,Each carton is 15KG need to ship from ShenZhen China to us.

Then if Lily want to choose DHL/FEDEX/SF express to ship the 3 cartons form pad.

Then the volume weight of each carton=100*80*80/5000=128KG

So 3 cartons total volume weight will be 128*3=384KG

Gross weight of 3 cartons will be 15*3=45KG

Because the volume weight > the gross weight

So the final charge weight of the 3 cartons foam pad will be the volume weight, it will be charged by 384KG.

Lucy wants to ship hardware screws from china to USA.she has 3 cartons,Each carton with 10KG,and the carton size all same: 30*30*30cm.

We can get the volume weight for each carton=30*30*30/5000=5.4KG

Total volume weight for 3 cartons is 5.4*3=16.2KG

Another point for express freight is, that if the weight less than 21KG, then it will be added each 0.5KG.

That is 16.2KG will be charged as 16.5kg,

16.1KG will be charged as 16.5KG.

15.9KG will be charged as 16KG.

If charge wight more than 21KG, then even it is 21.1KG, will be charged as 22KG.

Let’s back to charge the gross weight for 3 hardware screws cartons, it is 10*3 =30KG

Because Gross weight >volume weight.

So the final charge weight of the 3 cartons hardware screws will be the gross weight, it will be charged by 30KG.

There is a little difference for UPS charge weight calculate method compared with DHL FEDEX and SF express.

The charge weight for UPS express is:

Bigger volume weight + bigger gross weight will be the final charge weight for one shipment for UPS express.

Lily has 1 carton foam pad and 2 cartons hardware screws need to ship from ShenZhen China to USA.

1 carton foam pad size is 100*80*80cm, gross weight is 15KG.

2 cartons hardware screws carton size: 30*30*30cm  and gross weight 10kg of each

Foam pad: let’s say carton A

Volume weight=100*80*80/5000=128kg  gross weight =15kg

Hardware screws,let’s say carton B and Carton C:

Volume weight=30*30*30/5000=5.4KG  gross weight=10kg

Because the volume weight of carton A is bigger than the gross weight.So the charge weight of Carton A is 128KG

The gross weight of carton B and C is bigger than the volume weight, So the charge weight of carton B and C both are 10KG.

So if choose UPS express, the final charge weight for Lily’s 3 cartons will be 128KG + 10KG + 10KG=148kg.

Total Gross weight for the 5 cartons is : 15*5=75KG.

We introduced above CBM to you, yes, the ocean freight be charged by cubic meter.
But you know some products real gross weight much big than the CBM weight.
For example, 100 cartons hardware screws,each carton size 30*30*30cm, 20kg each carton.
The total gross weight is 20*100=2000kg.

CBM for the 100 cartons=2.7CBM.

In common ocean freight, the Ocean company with a rule is that 1CBM=500kg.

Now the 2000KG will be charged as 4CBM.

The final charge weight for this shipment will be 4CBM but not 2.7CBM.

I think you may still not understand what i mean,don’t worry.

It means compare with the CBM and 500KG.

If your shipment 1500KG but only 0.8CBM. Because 1CBM=500kg Then it will be charged by 3CBM but not 0.8CBM for your shipment.
